Body Hair Transplant
BHT, commonly known as the Body hair transplant is a technique to transfer the grafts of the body to the recipients’ area. The procedure is most suitable for areas such as the mustache, beard, eyebrows, etc. The restoration is demanded by individuals who have experienced loss of hair, thin hair, burnt areas, scars by surgeries, etc. Donor areas of the patient can be the armpits, chest, abdomen, etc.
Body hair can be transplanted to the patients’ scalp, basically at those areas where the growth is minimum or absolutely none. However, areas, where the hair growth is minimum like sides of the scalp, do not have adequate donor supply. Therefore, these areas cannot be used as the donor areas. Also, body hair transplantation is least preferred when the hair is transplanted on the scalp. In usual cases, the hair on the scalp itself is used for the transplantation, however, if the patient has no donor area on the scalp then it is advised to get a body hair transplant. The donor area of the patient is kept covered for at least 4-5 days so that the scars can heal itself.
Usually, the donor scalp is less when the patient has undergone any surgery, has existing skin diseases, accidental cases of burnt skin, etc. In these cases the scalp is unable to be a donor even from its sides, hence in such situations, doctors/ surgeons handling the patient are forced to extract hair from rest of the body parts of the individual to cater to the needs of the treatment.
The transplant takes place with the same type of hair, but every body part in the human body has different textures of hair. For example, the hair in the abdomen is thicker than the hair present of our eyebrows. With this fact, the body hair transplant has certain restrictions that are related to the size, texture, and length of the hair present.
Doctors/surgeons in this field do not recommend the body hair transplant, especially in cases where the body hair are transplanted to the scalp. Ou human body has different kinds of hair like thick hair, short hair, thin hair and long hair; hence the roots of the hair also tend to differ with the lengthening time. The hair in our body takes unequal time to grow, this process can be explained simply by thinking why the hair on the armpit does not grow as fast as the hair on our scalp. Our scalp hair takes a minimum of 50-60 days to grow in 1 inch in length, while the beard hair on a human takes 5-6 months i.e 150-180 days. With such issues, the doctor/surgeon does not usually recommend body hair transplant to the scalp, however, if there is no option left then the body hair transplant is done.
Medispa, a hair transplant center, schedules its entire procedure over an email, phone or visual consultation. Procedures carried over the email or phone should be accompanied by the pictures so that the team of professionals in this area can understand the case better.
