FUE Hair Transplant (Follicular Unit Extraction)
Follicular Unit Extraction, referred to as FUE, is a globally popular technique of hair transplant. In order to perform this procedure, a very big infrastructure with large trained assisting teams is not required. One qualified doctor with two assistants can easily perform this procedure.
This is the technique chosen for a smaller bald area, where an individual is touching maximum IV grade of male pattern baldness or it may be chosen for hair restoration/filling the gaps/bald patches in eyebrows, beard or moustache.
This technique is also preferred when grafts from the beard or other body areas are to be harvested. A fine punch graft machine having a diameter of 0.07 mm is used to harvest grafts, one by one from the donor area of the scalp, beard or body to cover the bald area. This technique is believed to be non-invasive, but has certain strong limitations.
This procedure is never chosen if the baldness level is high. In this technique, maximum 2500 hair grafts can be extracted from the safe zone of the scalp in one session. At the time of extraction, it should be seen that the safe zone, i.e. the back of the scalp is not denuded. It has been seen in many cases that at the time of transplant with this technique, if the doctor makes a mistake, the safe zone is denuded and open scalp is visible in the back of the head. Therefore, at the time of harvesting, the doctor must pick up one graft by leaving a minimum four.
It is also to be considered that under any circumstances, grafts from an unsafe zone are not harvested, otherwise the transplanted hair taken from the unsafe zone will fall in due course of time.
The second limitation is that if the patient has curly hair, then the punch graft will inevitably damage the graft at the time of extraction. Curved shaped follicular units and the position of the graft under the skin surface of the scalp cannot be seen and therefore at the time of pushing the punch-graft inside the scalp, the hair graft is either cut or damaged.
The damaged graft cannot regrow, which causes triple loss. The first loss is that the hair does not grow in the bald area; the second big loss is that the hair harvested from the scalp leaves an empty area and third loss is that depleted or denuded donor area does not leave any scope for the second session of hair transplant.
The third limitation of this technique is that if the patient has less hair in the back of the scalp, then the dotted scars created from the point of extraction will be conspicuous.
FUE transplant is very common in Dubai. The average rate charged in Dubai for FUE hair transplant is around 10 to 20 AED per graft.
At Medispa Hair Transplant Centre in Dubai, the cost is from 5 AED to 8 AED per graft as it solely depends upon candidacy.
Robotic Technology of Hair Transplant
It is basically another style of the FUE technique where graft extraction is done with the help of a robotic machine.
It is the digitally advanced hair transplant procedure. In this process, the hair surgeon uses a robotic device instead of manual hand-held devices like punch grafts.
This technology performs a 3D hair charting on its advanced system setup for proper results.
Robotic arm judges the position of hair that is more accurate than the manual techniques. This quality of the robotic technology saves a large number of grafts from getting damaged at the time of extraction.
High-resolution imaging of the donor area also gives an accurate visual to decide and control the gap between hairs for harvest. Both donor and recipient areas are three-dimensional projected on the screen, which helps a surgeon to create ideal hair pattern with firm hair distribution.
The robotic procedure is much more systematic as it chooses the same graft quality throughout. This check of grafts yields much better results as compared to the normal procedure of FUE.
It is much more reliable than general extraction technique of FUE for the only reason that it being a machine does not commit human errors.
